“If you want to identify me,” he says to the British officers who are questioning him, “ask me not where I live, or what I like to eat, or how I comb my hair,
but
ask me what I think I am living for, in detail, and ask me what I think is keeping me from living fully for the thing I want to live for.
Between these two answers you can determine the identity of any person.”

True wisdom , I will have to look for that book.
Very powerful Perpetua
It is, Tina. It is.
Interesting if a little abstract.
What do you mean abstract
Maybe abstract is not the correct terminology. There are a lot of people who would be unable to answer this question, not knowing what their lives stand for themselves. I can see the point of the statement, but the futility in trying to pry that information from many people also stands out!
Thanks for your insight. My thoughts is asking a question less than superficial. It’s similar to ‘what is your story’.
I guess. I mean, I agree, but i stick to my belief that it is a question you can only pose to someone who is ready and willing to reply.
Fair enough
Have you read ‘TheSeven Storey Mountain’ by Thomas Merton? Such a great read.
I bought a secondhand paperback dog eared from reading and recreading it. His writings are so rich.
